This autumn is shaping up to be an exciting season at Videometer, with innovative projects, upcoming international events, and fresh opportunities for learning. From seed viability studies and AI-driven spectral imaging to cultural heritage research, our latest newsletter is packed with insights for researchers, breeders, and industry professionals.

Meet Videometer at Euroseeds 2025 in Edinburgh

We are proud to announce our participation at Euroseeds 2025, held 19–22 October at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre, Scotland.

  • InnovAction Finalists – Videometer is among the top 10 finalists, showcasing how our spectral imaging technology is shaping the future of seed science and innovation.
  • Visit us at Booth 27 – Experience the VideometerLab in action and see how spectral imaging powers seed phenotyping and accelerates breeding and testing.

Don’t miss the chance to connect with us in Edinburgh. Request a meeting at our booth to learn more.

Seed Meets Technology 2025: Join Our Lecture

At Seed Meets Technology 2025 in Zwaagdijk-Oost, Netherlands, our CEO Dr. Jens Michael Carstensen will be holding the lecture:

Automating Seed Phenotyping for Breeding, Processing, and Testing
Wednesday, 24 September, 15:30–16:15 CET

Discover how the VideometerLab combines spectral imaging and AI to deliver fast, reliable, and non-destructive seed phenotyping—helping breeders and seed companies make smarter decisions.

Exploring Seed Viability with Spectral Imaging

Understanding plant development and seed viability is critical for agriculture. In his PhD project “Control of ovule number and seed size in Brassicaceae”, Nathan Roberts uses the VideometerLab Product Suite to study traits that directly impact yield potential.

With spectral imaging, Roberts can analyze seed germination and leaf stress non-destructively, paving the way for more efficient breeding and crop development.

Bringing Seed Analysis into the Digital Age

A study led by Aarhus University and TystofteFonden highlights how AI-powered spectral imaging is transforming seed analysis.

Traditional seed quality checks are manual and time-consuming. With Videometer’s technology, researchers can now:

  • Capture visual and chemical data across wavelengths
  • Use AI to classify seeds, detect impurities, and flag anomalies
  • Enable faster, more accurate, and scalable seed testing

This innovation opens new possibilities, from early disease detection to reducing human error in seed labs.

Analyzing Hidden Art with VideometerLab

Spectral imaging isn’t just revolutionizing agriculture, it’s also preserving cultural heritage. A recent MDPI study of an 1836 post-Byzantine icon used VideometerLab to reveal hidden inscriptions, underdrawings, and surface details invisible to the naked eye.

By capturing 19 spectral bands from UV to near-infrared, researchers uncovered lost details that guide precise restoration. Videometer technology continues to demonstrate its versatility across disciplines—from seed science to art conservation.
