Germination and Vigor

Why germination is important?

Viable seeds will germinate if they are placed under suitable conditions of moisture, temperature and oxygen.
Poor harvesting and storage conditions can result in low seed quality. However, issues like cleaning, processing, shipping, disease, insects and environmental influences also have a high impact on the germination quality.

It is important to detect the germination capacity of a seed lot fast and efficiently in order to be able to proceed quickly with further seed handling.
This is done smoothly with the VideometerLab where the multispectral imaging results will show you the percentage of viable seeds in your lot.

Germination measure of acrospire

3 Simple Steps for Detection of
Chitting Percentage

1

Put the grains in a Petri dish (single kernels)

2

Place the Petri dish in the VideometerLab

3

Activate measurement

Results in 20 Seconds

Grains without any sprout will be marked in a red rectangle and grains with sprouts will be marked with a green rectangle in the output image. The number of chitted kernels in percentage will be calculated.

Seed Vigor Testing

Seed vigor defines the activity and performance of a seed. The size and health of the seed determine the growth rate. When using multispectral imaging measurement with the VideometerLab you can quickly determine seed vigor properties.
