The September 2026 edition of Videometer Quarterly is out. This issue looks at why the same sample can measure as a different color under different lighting, and rounds up recent research spanning seed biopriming and microplastics analysis. How color measurement holds up under any light
Our top story looks at metamerism, the effect where two samples measure as identical under one light source and look completely different under another. It’s a common source of color complaints in manufacturing and quality control, and the focus of a new Videometer paper, Measuring Color As It Really Is. Standard colorimeters take a single point reading, which hides the natural color variation present in samples like seeds, fabric, meat, or powders. The VideometerLite+ instead calculates a full color value at every point across a sample, revealing both an overall color reading and how much that color varies, rather than averaging the differences away.
