Discrimination of Medicago seed species |
Researchers from the Agricultural University of Athens studied various methods to assess the quality of a popularity-gaining food ingredient – edible seaweed. They focused on rapid methods to detect microbial growth to minimize food spoilage, as well as to ensure the quality of food for the end customer. The VideometerLab - a state-of-art spectral imaging instrument - showcased good prediction performance for quality assessment of edible seaweed. The findings of this research can further aid food producers in improving their value chain processes. |
Currently, the most common method for seed identification is molecular marking. However, researchers from the China Agricultural University decided to study a non-invasive, rapid, and reproducible technique – spectral imaging analysis with the VideometerLab. The study incorporated Stacking Ensemble Learning with spectral imaging to effectively discriminate between alfalfa seed species. The researchers concluded that the tested model is powerful and provides a great base for further studies on low-cost and high-efficiency sensors. Learn more about the methodology used and the spectral imaging technology behind the VideometerLab. |
